A500 left ‘shut’ as emergency services called to smash between trucks
A stretch of the A500[1] was shut off this morning following a crash between two lorries. And one trucker is today in hospital following the smash between Porthill and the Sandyford turn-off.
As police and paramedics dealt with the incident - which occurred around 9.30am - traffic monitoring system Inrix reported how all lanes on the carriageway were temporarily closed off. West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] says the crash involved a truck and a second lorry, which was stationary in a layby.
A spokesman said: "The collision damaged the trailer of the parked lorry. A single ambulance attended the scene after a 999 call at just after 9.30am.

"The driver of the parked lorry was able to get out of the cab himself and was assessed at the scene before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital[6] as a precaution – there were no other casualties."
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police[7] added: "Officers went to the scene with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. Two HGVs were involved in the collision.
"One of the drivers was assessed at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution. No one else was injured. The road has since re-opened."
