BREAKING: Long delays on M61 motorway following crash with lanes shut – latest updates
Drivers are facing queues on the M61[1] near Bolton following a crash. Emergency services are at the scene on following the collision on the northbound carriageway, between junctions five and six.
All traffic had been stopped following the collision, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Traffic is now moving again but there is a lane closed in either direction of the motorway.
Queues are currently building in both directions approaching the scene. A spokesperson for North West Motorway Police tweeted: "We are making to report of an RTC on M61 northbound between junctions 5 and 6, there are tailbacks on northbound carriageway."

An update from Inrix said: "Long delays and one lane closed due to accident, a lorry involved on M61 in both directions between J5 A58 Snydale Way (Westhoughton) and J6 A6027 De Havilland Way (Horwich). Lane three (of three) remains shut in both directions after traffic was held briefly on the northbound side."
