BREAKING: Man dies after being hit by car on M62 with motorway fully shut – latest updates

A man has died after being hit by a car on the M62[1] – with a stretch of the motorway fully shut this morning.

The man – a pedestrian – was struck by a car on the motorway near Salford at around 12.15am today (Tuesday), Greater Manchester Police said. He was sadly pronounced dead on the scene.

A 25-year-old man remained at the scene was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been taken to custody.

The M62 remains fully shut in both directions as accident investigation work is carried out. It is closed between junction 12 for the M60 Eccles Interchange and junction 11 for Birchwood.

Drivers have been urged to take a different route while police work on the scene. The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning.
