Driver injured in M4 campervan crash taken to hospital
The incident took place between Junctions 16 and 17 of the M4, heading eastbound towards Swindon[1], when the driver of a campervan crashed into the barrier.
“At around 4pm yesterday (26/09) we responded after a campervan was involved in a single vehicle RTC on the M4 eastbound between junctions 17 and 16,” a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
Officers have now confirmed that one person has been taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be serious, although they are unable to give details about the nature of these injuries.
“When I went past, there were three firetrucks and some police cars and ambulance cars,” said one eye witness.
“We saw the campervan in the bush with the railing in the left-hand lane, and police were directing traffic into the other two lanes,” they added.
The incident, which is believed to have taken place just after 3pm, left the broken metal barrier scattered across the motorway, and the campervan came to an abrupt stop on the grass verge.
Traffic was held at a standstill for several hours.
However, it has not been confirmed what caused the driver to crash, but no other vehicles were involved.
