Fake bank representative scams woman out of $700: Beachwood police blotter
BEACHWOOD, Ohio —
Fraud: Halburton Road
At 3:20 p.m. Sept. 19, a Beachwood woman, 67, reported that she had received a call from someone who claimed to be a representative of Huntington Bank. The caller told the woman that there had been fraudulent activity on her account.
The woman was told that, to clear up the matter, she needed to pay to an unknown person, through a Zelle account, two special payments.
The woman did as instructed and made payments of $400 and $300 before learning she had been the victim of a scam.
Theft: Chagrin Boulevard
At 12:55 p.m. Sept. 19, police arrested a Macedonia man, 39, for stealing groceries totaling $28.48 from Giant Eagle, 24601 Chagrin Blvd.
Violation of a protection order: Cedar Road
At 2:30 p.m. Sept. 20, a Cleveland Heights woman, 24, stopped a police officer on a bike while at Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road. The woman was alone at the moment, but said her ex-boyfriend, against whom she had a protection order, was also at the mall.
Police located the man, 28, of Lyndhurst, and arrested him for violation of the protection order.
OVI: Chagrin Boulevard
At 12:40 a.m. Sept. 22, police were called to Joe’s Kwik Mart, 25705 Chagrin Blvd., to investigate a report of a car crash in the business’s parking lot.
After police investigated the two-car crash, officers arrested one of the drivers, a South Euclid man, 40, who was found to be intoxicated.
Police charged the man with OVI and marijuana possession.
Assault: Harvard Road
At 4:35 p.m. Sept. 22, a Cleveland woman, 18, an employee of Rose Senior Living, 23611 Harvard Road, reported that while she was at work, another woman damaged her mother’s car in the facility’s lot. The Cleveland woman had driven her mother’s car to work, which had its sides keyed.
Immediately after the woman made the report to police, the suspect, 18, of Streetsboro, appeared on the scene and began a physical fight with the victim.
Police arrested the Streetsboro woman on charges of assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damaging.
Underage possession of alcohol: Hazelmere Road
At 6:55 p.m. Sept. 23, it was reported that a teenage girl who had been dropped off at a Beachwood friend’s house by her mother, later called her mother to report that her two friends had been drinking and were intoxicated.
Police arrived and called EMS to transfer two girls,13, of Beachwood, and 14, of Hudson, to the hospital. No one was charged.
