A YOUNG man tragically killed when he was struck by a bus in Dublin city has been named locally.

Ciaran Briody was declared dead at the scene of the devastating collision outside Busaras at around 11:30 pm last night.

The 23-year-old, who is understood to be originally from Meath[1], was a student in Dublin.

A photo of Mr Briody was released by the garda[2] press office this evening.

According to The Irish Mirror[3], Gardai have obtained CCTV footage from the scene at the junction of Amiens Street and Store Street in Dublin[4] 1.

It shows the young man crossing the road and being hit by the bus, which was turning a corner at the time.

Cops are continuing to probe the fatal collision and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to provide support to the family.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators completed a technical examination of the scene this afternoon.

Amiens Street, Store Street and Beresford Place have reopened to traffic and pedestrians.

Gardai have urged any witnesses of the devastating crash to come forward with information.

In a statement this evening, a spokesperson said: "Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and who were in the Amiens Street/Store Street area last night between 11:15pm and 11.45pm, is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."

Busaras was closed for a time following the incident but has since reopened.

Superintendent Tom Murphy of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau expressed his sympathies to the young man’s family.

He said: "First and foremost on behalf of An Garda Siochana I want to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the young male who was tragically killed in a collision in Dublin City Centre overnight.

"This brings to a total of 126 fatalities in Ireland this year so far. It’s a fifth, 25 in the month of August alone, which is a fifth of the yearly totals."

The man's death brings the number of people killed on Irish roads since Monday to six.

Tragically, 12 people have lost their lives in road crashes over the last seven days in what has "been one of the most tragic weeks on the roads for a very long time".

Four young people were killed in a devastating crash in Clonmel on Friday, while a man in his 40s died after a horror motorcycle crash in Offaly on Sunday.

In a separate incident another motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, died after he crashed at junction one of the southbound M1/M50 slip road in Dublin shortly after 7pm on Sunday.
