Glasgow M8 motorway chaos as vehicle overturns in ‘poor weather conditions’

There’s chaos on the busy M8 motorway this morning after a vehicle overturned in ‘poor weather conditions’.

The incident took place just before 8am and is affecting J6 (Newhouse Junction) and J6A (Chapelhall) on the westbound stretch, with one lane currently blocked. Traffic is queueing up and motorists have been advised to take care.

A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland[1] said: “Lane two (Of two) is currently blocked on the #M8 Westbound between J6 – J6A due to an overturned vehicle. Traffic is very slow on approach. Weather conditions are very poor due to surface water so please #takecare on approach.”

Today is set to be a wet and miserable morning with the MET office[4] warning of ‘difficult driving conditions’. The forecast reads: “Spells of rain in the morning, heavy at first with some difficult driving conditions.

“Becoming brighter from late morning with some showers and blustery winds during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 17C.”

ScotRail have also issued an update, stating that services may be cancelled, delayed by up to half an hour or revised due to the weather conditions. spokesperson added: “Due to the forecasted heavy rain, speed restrictions have been put into place across several lines throughout the ScotRail network.

“Services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. Please keep an eye on your journey via our app, website or JourneyCheck.”
