Ionia County man, 41, dies in fiery crash

KENT COUNTY, MI — A 41-year-old Ionia County man died Monday after a head-on crash in Kent County.
The crash happened just prior to 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, on Fallasburg Park Drive, near Heim Street in Vergennes Township.
Kent County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on an initial report of a vehicle fire. Arriving deputies quickly learned that the fire was the result of two vehicles having collided, a news release states.
Upon arrival, first responders located an injured 16-year-old female from Lowell, who had been northbound on Fallasburg Park Drive and crossed the centerline.
It was determined that the Chevrolet pickup the teen was driving struck a GMC Envoy head-on. When first responders arrived, the Envoy was on fire.
After the fire was put out, investigators located a deceased 41-year-old male from Saranac inside the vehicle.
At this time, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and its victim advocates are working alongside the families involved in the crash. The victim’s name has not been released as of yet.
The KCSO Traffic Safety Unit is continuing to look over data collected from the scene and investigating contributing circumstances to the crash.
Also responding to the scene were responders from the Lowell Police Department and the Lowell Area Fire Department.
