Live M5 traffic updates amid ‘severe’ delays in Somerset

Drivers on the M5 in Somerset are facing severe delays as holidaymakers descend on their favourite destinations before the heatwave fizzles out.

Temperatures have soared to well above 30C this week with a heatwave arriving just as children went back to school. The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for central England tomorrow, but the weather in most areas of the Westcountry looks set to remain settled.

No major issues have yet been reported on the M5, but traffic is not moving on the southbound carriageway on the approach to Bristol, with traffic also backing up on the northbound carriageway near Taunton.

Traffic monitor Inrix states: “Long delays on M5 Southbound at J15 M4 J20 (Almondsbury Interchange). In the roadworks area.”
