M5 crash: Police seek witnesses after pedestrian, 34, is killed
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 34-year-old man was killed in a collision on the M5 on Wednesday. The pedestrian was killed following the collision that involved a number of vehicles on the northbound carriageway of the motorway.
Officers were called at around 5.30am to a report of a serious collision between junctions 27 (Tiverton) and 26 (Wellington) on the M5. The collision involved two heavy goods vehicles.
A 34-year-old male pedestrian from the Northamptonshire area was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
The southbound carriageway of the motorway was closed until 10am. The northbound carriageway reopened at 4pm with police thanking motorists for their patience.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the M5 motorway on Wednesday, September 6, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers were called at around 5.30am to a report of a serious collision between junctions 27 and 26 on the M5.
“It was reported that the collision involved a number of vehicles, including two heavy goods vehicles, that had collided with a pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the motorway.
“A 34-year-old male pedestrian from the Northamptonshire area was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The road was closed while a forensic investigation was carried out.
