M62 closed in both directions as man dies following incident involving a pedestrian being struck by vehicle

The M62 has been closed in both directions between Eccles and Birchwood following an incident involving a pedestrian being struck with a vehicle. Greater Manchester Police responded to calls at around 12.15am.

Emergency services attended the scene, but sadly one man was pronounced dead.  A 25-year-old man who remained at the scene was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, he remains in custody.

The road is expected to remain closed in both directions as officers conduct their investigation. Diversions are in place for motorists.

The newly launched Bee Network Twitter/ X site issued an update shortly before 8.30am this morning. The account confirmed that the M62 remains closed between junctions 11 and 13 due to a police incident.

They added that surrounding roads will be congested and that bus journeys will be “significantly delayed.” To check on the status of your journey, visit the Bee Network website. [1]
