Man denies leaving accident but his truck tells a different tale: Mayfield Police Blotter
MAYFIELD, Ohio
Hit-skip: Interstate-271
A woman reported at 9:11 a.m. Sept. 13 that her vehicle became disabled after the driver of a rental truck brake-checked her, and her vehicle struck it from behind.
She said the truck had been tailgating her and bumped her vehicle, so she pulled to the side of the road. The truck did not stop so she sped up to obtain the license plate number before she was brake-checked.
The truck was subsequently located at Sheetz in Willoughby Hills. The driver denied any knowledge of the incident but the damage on the rear of the truck matched the damage on the car.
The New York man, 28, was subsequently charged with hit-skip.
General assistance: Lander Road
A man said Sept. 12 that when he was driving from the high school, another vehicle came up quickly behind him and the driver swore and spit at him and showed his middle finger.
He said the truck had the name of a business on it, but he did not want officers to contact the company. He only wanted his statement on file in case the other driver reported the incident.
Civil matter: Beta Drive
A California woman said Sept. 12 that while staying at the Hilton Garden Inn she saw her ex-husband drive through the parking lot on two occasions.
She said she did not have any contact with the Highland Heights man but was worried due to their past issues.
Her attorney advised her to have the matter documented.
Impaired driving: SOM Center Road
A caller reported at 10:37 p.m. Sept. 12 that a vehicle was driving erratically and had just pulled off the roadway onto North Berkley Square.
Responding officers located the vehicle parked in a residential parking lot.
The driver, a 56-year-old Novelty woman, was found with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and subsequently arrested for OVI.
Suspicious person: SOM Center Road
A woman reported around 8 a.m. Sept. 13 that she was at library to take her dog for a walk on the trails when a man in a vehicle yelled at her and called her a racist.
Responding officers located the vehicle and the driver, who explained that the woman looked at him funny, so they exchanged words. He said he had been resting in the vehicle before driving to his next job site.
Harassing communication: Wilson Mills Road
A woman said Sept. 13 that she was being harassed by the mother of her daughter’s friend.
She said their daughters became friends while trying out for cheerleading and she and the mother also became acquaintances.
Officers determined there was mutual harassment and threats between the two women that primarily issued ill will against each of their daughters.
Both women were advised to stop contacting each other.
Suspicious activity: Walnut Drive
A resident reported loud banging coming from Heinen’s around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 13.
Officers spoke to a foreman of a construction company and advised them of the complaint and warned they could be cited for doing work at night.
The building department was asked to speak with Heinen’s management about the incident.
