Man injured in Easington Lane crash following police chase

A man has been seriously injured following the two-vehicle collision in Pemberton Bank, Easington Lane, shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, September 13.

An hour before the crash, officers from Durham Constabulary[1] received reports of a stolen vehicle, on Station Road, Hetton-le-Hole. 

The officers spotted the vehicle in question, and during the ensuing police chase, the suspected stolen vehicle crashed into two cars, which sustained some damage.

The pursuit was called off, and a short time later, the same suspected stolen car crashed into a white Transit van on Pemberton Bank. 

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has also been arrested and remains in police custody. 

Another man, the driver of the white van, was also taken to hospital at the time but has since been released. 

A spokesperson for Durham Police said: “A man has been seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision in Pemberton Bank, shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, September 13.

“The driver of the van was also taken to hospital for treatment but has since been released.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and remains in police custody.”

Witnesses are asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 293 of September 13.
