Man killed after being hit by Ilfracombe purple land train
A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a purple land train in Ilfracombe.. Police[1] rushed to the single-vehicle incident at around 5.15pm on Friday (September 15) in the Hillsborough car park of the North Devon town.
The local man from Ilfracombe[2], aged in his 50s, became trapped by the land train and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
A 61-year-old man from Ilfracombe was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail to return on Friday, November 3, pending further enquiries.
Police say the crash happened outside the vehicle's storage facility. It was not in operation on its route at the time. Local officers and road policing officers carried out a thorough investigation of the scene. The car park was shut during this time before reopening at around 11.40am on Saturday (September 16). Police investigating the incident are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
