Motorcyclist struck by car and seriously injured in hit and run on A1079

A motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries, after they were struck by a car on the A1079 yesterday evening.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene of the crash between Bishop Burton and the Gardham junction. The motorbike rider was taken to hospital for treatment on their injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

Humberside Police has since arrested a man in the early hours of this morning and a white Peugeot 3008 has been recovered. After being closed for several hours, the road has now reopened after collision investigations.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We were called to a road traffic collision on the A1079, between Bishop Burton and the Gardham junction, at 11.30pm yesterday (Monday 11 September). A motorcyclist was struck by a car which failed to stop at the scene of the collision.

“The rider was taken to hospital for treatment for what are thought to be serious but not life-threatening injuries. Following initial enquiries, a man was arrested in the early hours of this morning and a white Peugeot 3008 has been recovered as part of our investigations into the collision.

“The road has been closed to allow for collision investigations to take place. We would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage from the A1079 at around the time of the collision is asked to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 705.”
