Two dead in A38 crash between horse-and-trap and Volvo car

Two people riding in a horse-and-trap have died in a horror crash with a Golf car in Gloucestershire. The double-fatal collision[1] happened on the A38 near the M50 on Friday at around 11.35pm, police said.

Two men, both from Worcestershire, who were riding in the trap, were declared dead at the scene. The horse was also killed in the incident on the A48 north of junction one of the motorway.

No other people were believed to have been injured in the collision. The coroner has been informed of the deaths.

The road remained closed on Saturday afternoon[4] towards Upton. A full investigation into the circumstances of the incident is being carried out by Gloucestershire police[5].

Anybody who may have been in the area at the time is being asked to come forward and speak to police. The car involved is a blue Volkswagen Golf and not a Volvo, as the police had previously informed us.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary through the website here[6], quoting incident 563 of September 15.
