Two pronounced dead in horse-and-trap crash

Two people who were riding in a horse drawn carriage have been pronounced dead following a crash. The collision, which also involved a blue Volkswagen Golf, closed the A38 in both direction in Gloucestershire.

Emergency services were called to the main road, near junction 1 with the M5 at around 11.35pm on Friday, September 15. Gloucestershire Police has said that two men from Worcestershire, who were riding in the trap, were declared dead at the scene. The horse also died in the collision.

Officers say the coroner has been informed and that no other people are believed to have been injured in the crash, GloucestershireLive reports[1]. A closure remains in place between J1 with the M50 and the Ripple turn off.

At the time of writing, the A38 has been closed for approximately 16-hours and police have said the road is still closed between the junction and Upton while a full investigation is carried out. The force is now appealing for anyone with information to get in contact.

In a statement, Gloucestershire Police said: “Anybody who may have been in the area at the time is being asked to come forward and speak to police.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary through the website, quoting incident 563 of 15 September: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us/us/a-matter-involving-driving-vehicles-or-a-road-traffic-incident/[4]
