Unleashed dog causes car crash; elderly pet owner cited: Parma Heights Police Blotter

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio
Dog at large, W. 130th Street: On Aug. 24, police were dispatched to a W. 130th Street address regarding a car crash.
An arriving officer discovered the reason for the crash was an unleashed dog in the road.
The animal warden soon responded and cited the 72-year-old male owner of the dog for animal at large.
Disturbance, Anita Drive: On Aug. 24, police were dispatched to an Anita Drive address regarding a disturbance between a male and a female.
An arriving officer talked to the caller, who said the male would not give the woman back her car keys.
That’s also when the officer learned there was a temporary protection order involving the couple.
Police are investigating. No charges were filed at this time.
Theft, Pearl Road: On Aug. 25, a Pearl Road resident came to the police station after discovering he was scammed out of $30,000.
The man told officers he received an invoice for an old anti-virus program that he previously used.
He contacted the company, which refunded his account.
However, in the process of getting a refund, they told him by accident the company sent him $70,000.
The victim was asked to return the money.
After sending $30,000 back to the company, the resident realized he had been scammed.
There are no suspects. Police are investigating.
Grand theft, Oakwood Road: On Aug. 25, an Oakwood Road resident called police after realizing a female acquaintance took his 2010 Mazda CX7 without permission.
Also, inside of the vehicle was his $1,000 cell phone.
An officer was able to locate the vehicle and suspect. The victim was arrested for grand theft.
Drunken driving, Pearl Road: During an Aug. 27 traffic stop of a Saturn Ion for an equipment violation on Pearl Road, the officer smelled booze.
Not only did it turn out the Maple Heights driver had a suspended license, but she also had an open container.
After failing a field sobriety test, the woman was arrested for drunken driving.
She was also cited for open container and driving with a suspended license.
