Woman arrested after several drunken encounters with police on the same day: Westlake Police Blotter
WESTLAKE, Ohio –
Disorderly conduct while intoxicated
A 50-year-old Westlake woman was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated after having four encounters with police on the same day.
At 11 a.m. on Sept. 5, officers responded to a Detroit Road bank where a woman was causing a disturbance. She left the building before the officers arrived.
At 5 p.m. the same day, Crocker Park security called the Westlake Police Department to report that a woman was passed out in an alleyway at the shopping center. Officers determined she was the same woman from the earlier bank call and sent her to UH St. John Medical Center due to intoxication.
At 6:15 p.m., the police department received another call that the lady was now at Center Ridge and Porter roads “jumping into oncoming traffic.” The woman had left the hospital’s waiting room before the emergency room staff could medically evaluate her. Officers took her back to the hospital.
At 8 p.m., a concerned Dover Center Road resident reported a woman sitting on the sidewalk in front of their house. When the resident asked if she was OK, the woman said she was fine, and just drinking margaritas. This time, the officers decided the woman could not care for herself and they arrested her, took her to the Westlake jail, and charged her with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
OVI crash: Hilliard Boulevard
A driver at 1 a.m. on Sept. 7 called the Westlake Police Department to report running over a bunch of debris on Hilliard near Salem Parkway from an earlier crash.
Officers found a Toyota pickup had lost control and struck a wooden flower box in the grass area in the middle of the boulevard. The driver of the Toyota appeared to be intoxicated. The 26-year-old Westlake resident was field tested and arrested for OVI and failure to control. His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, according to a police statement.
Concealed weapon: I-90
Officers stopped a car at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 on I-90 for a license plate violation.
The patrolmen detected signs of drug use in the car, and the driver directed the officers to a small amount of marijuana in the center console. A search revealed a 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat. The 28-year-old Willoughby Hills man said he forgot to tell the officers the gun was there.
He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.
Weapons under disability: Crocker Road
Officers at 3 p.m. on Sept. 4 stopped a vehicle for a moving violation on Crocker Road at I-90.
While speaking with the driver, the officers noticed a handgun sticking out from under the passenger seat.
Investigation revealed that the man had been convicted of a felony domestic violence charge, which disqualified him from lawfully possessing a firearm. Warrants for possessing weapons under a disability were sought for the 26-year-old Cleveland resident.
Theft: Crocker Park
Officers at 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 6 responded to a call from Nordstrom Rack security about a shoplifting in progress.
Employees were watching a couple remove security tags and conceal store merchandise. The man and woman were detained after they left the store. Over $550 in merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.
The suspects were caring for an 8-year-old child while shoplifting, according to the police. The boy was cared for by officers until the pair were processed and released with a court date.
The 20-year-old Maple Heights man initially misidentified himself to the police officers, according to a press release. He was charged with misidentification in addition to misdemeanor theft. The 27-year-old woman, also from Maple Heights, was charged with child endangerment, misdemeanor theft, and possession of criminal tools for having tools to remove security sensors.
