Young man found dead near North Wales pier is named

A man found dead near a North Wales pier has been named. Alex Carter Daley, 22, was discovered last Sunday, September 17.[1]

An inquest into his death was opened in Caernarfon[2] today. Sarah Riley, assistant coroner for north west Wales, confirmed at the hearing that Mr Daley, of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, was found near Garth Pier in Bangor[3].

She also said that a pathologist has given the provisional cause of death as drowning. The assistant coroner adjourned the inquest for a date to be fixed.

After the discovery North Wales Police[6] appealed for help to assist their investigations.[7] They asked for dashcam footage captured in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning, September 17.

Detective Inspector Richard Griffith said at the time: “We are now working to understand the man’s final movements. We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area or may have dashcam footage between Holyhead[8] Road, Bangor[9], to Menai Bridge[10], Anglesey[11], between 2am and 5am on the morning of September 17, to contact us.”
