79-year-old woman loses $2,500 in online scam: Westlake Police Blotter
WESTLAKE, Ohio -

A resident came to the Westlake Police Department on Oct.
13 to report being the victim of a scam.
The 79-year-old woman had been searching online in connection with her job when she received pop-up messages indicating that her Apple computer had been hacked due to being on an unsecured website.
The victim said she used Google to find a phone number for "Apple support," which she called. The fake support person said that the victim's account was "severely compromised," and she needed to share her screen with their IT person to fix problems. The scammer talked the victim into visiting local stores to buy gift cards.
The victim did not realize she fell victim before she was out over £2,500.
Crash: Westwood Road
Officers at 7 a.m. on Oct.
17 responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Westwood Road.
No one was injured, but the victim, who had been struck from behind by the other car, learned that the at-fault driver had no insurance or license, according to the police department.
Investigating officers also learned that the 32-year-old Cleveland woman had a warrant out of the Bratenahl Police Department, but that agency would not pick her up.
Westlake police cited the woman for failure to maintain an assured clear distance, driving under suspension, and having expired plates.
