Child, 12, dies in Maple Ridge after being hit by truck while riding to school

A 12-year-old child has died after being hit by a recycling truck in Maple Ridge on Wednesday morning. Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to the collision at about 8:30 a.m. at the corner of 116A Street and 196B Street. Article content
Police say the child was cycling to school when hit by the truck. Paramedics and Pitt Meadows firefighters tried life-saving measures but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Article content
The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and is co-operating, and police don't think impairment was a factor. The Ridge Meadows RCMP serious' crimes unit and crash analysts and reconstructionists were at the scene of the collision. "Our hearts and thoughts go out to the families of everyone involved," said RCMP Insp.
Martin Guay. "This is a tragic and devastating loss for our community." Anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam or surveillance video from the area is asked to call police at 604-463-6251. Those who witnessed the crash or are affected by it can call Ridge Meadows RCMP victim services at 604-467-7650.
