Five people seriously injured in head-on crash on ‘dangerous’ part of A46

Five people were seriously injured after a head-on collision on the A46. A grey Vauxhall Astra containing three men and a grey Honda CRV containing an elderly male and female collided on the A46 near Billesley. The smash happened at about 8pm, on Saturday, October 14, 24 hours after a young man tragically lost his life in a collision with a HGV on the same stretch of road.[1] All parties involved in the crash on Saturday suffered serious injuries, Warwickshire Police[2] said.

All were taken to University Hospital Coventry[3] and Warwickshire[4] for further assessment and treatment, the force confirmed. The two crashes have prompted a fresh wave of calls for road safety measures on the ‘dangerous’ Stratford stretch of the A46,[5] which runs between the A422 for Stratford-upon-Avon[6] and the A435 for Alcester. Police are now appealing for witnesses to both the collisions that occurred over the weekend.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash on Friday, which happened at about 8.40pm and involved a black BMW and a HGV, is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 347 of 13 October 2023.

Anyone who may have seen either vehicle before the collision on Saturday and anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact police on 101 or email [email protected][7] quoting incident 276 of 14 October 2023.
