Heartbroken wife ‘will always love’ husband killed in M53 school bus crash
The devastated wife of a bus driver who died in a crash has said she will “always love” him.
Stephen Shrimpton, 40, died after the school bus he was driving[1] hit a reservation, near to junction 5 on the M53. A 15-year-old schoolgirl, Jessica Baker,[2] also died as a result of the incident on Friday, September 29.
Merseyside Police confirmed 58 people were involved in the crash[3], including a 14-year-old boy who suffered life-changing injuries. A total of 52 people attended the emergency services training centre, 39 were discharged with no need for further treatment and 13 were treated for minor injuries and released.
In a post on Facebook accompanied by a picture of the couple together, Stephen Shrimpton’s wife Tania said: “I love him and will always love him.”
On the post friends of the couple replied[6] and offered their condolences. One wrote: “He loves you, and them babies. Remember his love will never go away he lives on in your heart and threw them babies.”
And another commented: “Sending so so much love hun and I so so sorry for your loss he was a great man, I’ll never forget him.” While a third said: “I am absolutely devastated and gutted for you. Sending you loads of love and hugs and the same to the children.”
After the crash, Stephen’s family issued as statement via Merseyside Police,[7] they said: “Stephen sadly passed away in a traffic accident. Stephen was a loving husband and father to his wife and his wonderful children, a caring and thoughtful man who would always prioritise others over himself.
“Stephen will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.” An investigation into this incident is ongoing and detectives are still appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage.
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The thoughts of everyone at Merseyside Police remain with those who were affected by the tragic incident yesterday. The families of Stephen and Jessica are being supported by specially trained officers and we are working with both schools and Wirral and Cheshire West Councils to ensure the necessary trauma support is in place for the children who were affected.
“We continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or have any information to please let us know. We also urge those who were driving near the incident to check your dashcam footage. Any information no matter how small could help the investigation.
“Motorists are also advised that the section of the M53 that was closed following the incident yesterday has now reopened.
