Hunger drives man to seek burgers after drinks: Bainbridge Township police blotter

BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio

Explain this to Officer Big Mac: Chillicothe Road

A Bainbridge Township man, 55, drove off the road and into a tree at 10:25 p.m. Sept. 22. A responding officer pulled him from the wreckage.

The man told police he was hungry and was on his way to McDonald’s for a hamburger after having a couple of drinks.

He was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for minor injuries, where he refused a blood-alcohol test.

Police found a loaded 45-caliber pistol and ammunition in the man’s glovebox.

He was charged with failure to control his vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and improper handling of a firearm. He was transported to the Geauga County Jail.

The prosecutor’s office is reviewing felony charges for the firearm.

Theft: Market Place Drive

A Maple Heights woman, 35, faces theft charges stemming from a 10:11 a.m. Sept. 8 incident at Walmart.

A store employee reported two women leaving the store with items that had been bagged without being scanned.

They left on foot, but an officer caught up to one of the women. She was cited for theft of items valued at $31.94.

Injury crash: Chillicothe Road

A South Russell man, 51, was transported to Ahuja Medical Center at 6:45 a.m. Sept. 13 following a two-vehicle crash.

He had been stopped in traffic when his vehicle was struck from behind by a car driven by a Burton man, 19, who was cited for not maintaining an assured clear distance from the car in front.

Smash and grab: Snyder Road

At 7:42 p.m. Sept. 21, a man driving a car with a Florida license plate was seen leaving the scene where two vehicles had smashed windows and purses stolen. The cars were parked at the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club.

The same suspect likely broke into a man’s car at about 7 p.m. while it was parked at Kenston High School and stole a laptop computer and briefcase. Two students heard the suspect breaking car windows and saw him leave in his vehicle, which they described to police.

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and Pepper Pike police had similar incidents on the same day.

At about 8:30 p.m., Chester Township police pursued a vehicle matching the description while someone in the vehicle threw items out the window, including the stolen purses. The suspect got away.

One woman, whose purse was recovered, was missing $1,100 in cash and her driver’s license.

Police are investigating. Thus far, it appears that the vehicle driven by the suspect was rented in Florida and was not returned on its due date.
