Major emergency response after car and lorry crash
The air ambulance has been seen landing in a nearby field (Image: Google Maps/ Dorset Air Ambulance) A person has been taken to hospital after a crash between a car and a lorry. A crash happened on the A354 Monkton Hill shortly before 10.50am this morning.
Witnesses saw three police cars, two ambulances and a fire engine rush to the scene. The air ambulance was seen landing in a nearby field. The road was blocked in both directions and subsequently closed, causing delays to traffic between Weymouth and Dorchester.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 10.47am to report of a collision involving a car and lorry. “Officers in attendance with fire and ambulance services. “The road is currently closed between the Stadium Roundabout and the Jurassic Roundabout.”
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said: “We received a call at 10.57am this morning about a road traffic collision on Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester. “Two crews from Dorchester and one from Weymouth attended the incident which involved a large goods vehicle and a car. “Firefighters removed a casualty from the car via the front door – they were then left in the care of our ambulance colleagues.”
At around 1.30pm, police confirmed one person had been taken to hospital and the road had been cleared and re-opened,
A police spokesperson said: “One person was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The road was cleared and reopened at around 12.35pm.”
