Man, 40s, killed after being struck down by car on M1 Motorway
A man in his 40s has been killed following a collision on the M1 Motorway.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning, saw the man struck down by a vehicle at Junction 16 southbound.
The male driver, aged in his early 50s, and his three passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were attended to by paramedics.

A statement from a garda[1] spokesperson reads; ‘Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the M1 Motorway, Dundalk, Co. Louth in the early hours of this morning Sunday 8th October, 2023.’
‘At approximately 2.45am Gardaí were alerted to a road traffic collision at Junction 16 southbound on the M1 motorway. A male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle. His body remains at the scene. A post mortem will take place in due course.’

‘The male driver, aged in his early 50s, and his three passengers (aged 50s and 40s) were attended to by ambulance personnel at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.’
‘The scene of the collision is currently preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI). The road remains closed and local diversions are in place.’
‘Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.’
‘Any road users who were travelling on the M1 this morning between 2.30am and 3.00am, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make this available to Gardaí.’
