Man dies after crash involving van and driver of broken-down vehicle

A man has died in a collision involving a van and the driver of a broken-down vehicle. The crash happened just before 6am on Tuesday (October 3) on the M49 motorway that links the Prince of Wales Bridge and Bristol.

The motorway was closed for nearly eight hours as police carried out their investigations at the scene. Avon and Somerset Police said that a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement from the force said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time and they will be offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer.”

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that would help with their investigations to get in touch.
