Man dies after crash on motorway near Welsh border

A man has died following an early morning crash near the Welsh border. The tragedy happened on the English side of the Prince of Wales Bridge in South Wales yesterday (Tuesday), closing the M49 for nearly eight hours.

The collision involved a van and the driver of a broken-down vehicle. Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene, reports WalesOnline.[1] A statement said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time and they will be offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer."

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was in custody. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that would help with their investigations to get in touch.

Just before 2pm yesterday, the police confirmed the road had re-opened after investigation work had taken place.
