Man dies after serious crash closes main motorway close to Prince of Wales bridge
A man has died after an early morning crash on a main road on the English side of the Prince of Wales Bridge. The M49 was closed for nearly eight hours after a collision involving a van and the driver of a broken-down vehicle.
Avon and Somerset Police said that a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. A statement said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time and they will be offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer.”
One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that would help with their investigations to get in touch.
Just before 2pm, the police confirmed that the road had re-opened after investigation work had taken place.
