Motorcyclist from Bay Shore killed in crash with box truck on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia, police say
A motorcyclist from Bay Shore was killed when he struck a box truck on the Sunrise Highway in Bohemia on Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Brandon Schwartz was riding a 2019 Honda motorcycle westbound in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway, west of Lakeland Avenue, when the motorcycle hit a 2021 Freightliner box truck at about 5:40 a.m., Suffolk police said in a news release.
Schwartz, 31, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck was not hurt.
The crash closed the Sunrise Highway at Exit 49 for several hours.
The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. The box truck was inspected at the scene by the Motor Carrier Safety Section.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
