Police name eight North Staffordshire areas where mobile speed …
Police[1] have confirmed eight areas across North Staffordshire where speeders should watch out. Staffordshire Police[2] have released the locations where mobile speed cameras will be deployed this week in an effort to improve safety on the county’s roads. But the force has stopped shy of listing the exact roads where the vans will be based. While in some counties the locations of the cameras will be regularly posted – including street names – the Staffordshire force has not traditionally done so.
However the constabulary has confirmed where it will be this week as part of a speed awareness crackdown. In the north of the county the vans will be in Biddulph[5], Sneyd Green[6], Porthill[7], Alton[8], Talke[9], Norton Green, Alsagers Bank and Hilderstone. Elsewhere in Staffordshire and they will be deployed to Dosthill, Hopwas, Anslow, Stapenhill, Codsall, Lower Penn, Rugeley, Hednesford, Burntwood and Cannock. A social media post to announce the locations stated: “If you follow the speed limits we would like to say thank you.
By treating the speed limit as the maximum, rather than a target, and driving considerately for the road conditions, you’re helping to keep other road users safe. The speed of a vehicle can affect the outcome for the driver and passengers if you’re involved in a collision. To encourage all road users to consider their speeds, we’re sharing the locations of our safety camera vans this week as part of our #SpeedAware[10] campaign which launches today.
This week the technicians will be covering routes across the north, east, south and west of the county to ensure all areas receive coverage, so you could see them in any of the following locations (and possibly others too!).” The force has previously revealed just how the technology inside the vans works.[11] Technicians on board can not only just punish motorists for breaking the speed limit – but also using a mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt. Meanwhile those caught making ‘rude gestures’ can also face a punishment.
Those snapped can face anything from an awareness course, to points – or even a trip to court.
