Police warning to people living in two parts of Merseyside
Police have issued a warning to people living in two parts of Merseyside.[1]
The Wirral local policing team shared the warning on Facebook on Sunday urging residents to be vigilant. A spokesperson for the force said officers have seen an increase in thefts from cars in Bebington and New Ferry[2] recently.
Officers said the thefts happened overnight and from cars which had not been locked.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police[5] said: "#TeamBeb has recently noticed a rise in theft from motor vehicles within the Bebington/ New Ferry areas of Wirral. These thefts generally occur overnight and are usually from insecure vehicles with items such as loose change being taken.
"We are reviewing CCTV footage and will leave no stone unturned in our attempts to bring the offender to justice. We would ask residents to ensure that their vehicles are secure when not in use and that all valuables are removed."
Merseyside Police has previously issued advice on what people should do before leaving their cars in order to protect it. This includes:
- Lock your car
- Keep keys safe
- Be aware of carjackers
- Park responsibly
- Watch for illegal tow trucks
- Fit good in-car security locks
- Double-check electronic locking
- Before owning, check for cloning
- Secure your port
