Several parked cars damaged at RTA, Warrensville Center Road lots: Shaker Heights police blotter
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio —
Criminal damaging: Van Aken Boulevard
At 5 a.m. Oct. 3, a Richfield man, 62, and a Shaker Heights woman, 63, reported that someone had damaged the window of their Chevrolet car that had been parked on Regional Transit Authority property, in the 1900 block of Van Aken Boulevard.
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,000. While investigating this crime, officers learned that eight other vehicles in close proximity to the couple’s car had also been damaged.
Criminal damaging: Warrensville Center Road
At 5:45 a.m. Oct. 3, officers were dispatched to a lot in the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road where a Cleveland Heights man, 27, reported that someone had damaged during the previous nighttime hours his Dodge vehicle and several other vehicles parked in the lot.
Damage to the man’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
OVI: Warrensville Center Road
At 5:15 a.m. Sept. 30, officers were dispatched to the area of Farnsleigh and Warrensville Center roads to investigate a report of a Jeep vehicle that had been driven into a pole.
Officers found a Cleveland man, 32, walking away from the area. Police approached the man, who smelled of alcohol, and asked if he had knowledge of the crash. The man admitted that he was the Jeep’s driver.
The man failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he refused to provide a breath sample.
OVI: Chagrin Boulevard
At 10:45 p.m. Sept. 30, a Chevrolet vehicle was seen traveling through a red light at the intersection of Chagrin Boulevard and Lee Road.
Police stopped the car and smelled alcohol on the person of the driver, a Cleveland woman, 62. The woman showed signs of intoxication and went on to fail field sobriety testing.
Police arrested the woman for OVI and, during a search of her car, located suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The woman submitted a breath alcohol sample of .04, below the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.
Aggravated menacing: Winslow Road
At 9:20 p.m. Sept. 30, it was reported that a Shaker Heights woman, 28, who was in the 17000 block of Winslow Road, displayed a gun while arguing with and threatening her 40-year-old neighbor.
Officers arrested the younger woman for aggravated menacing.
OVI: Lee Road
At 8:35 p.m. Sept. 30, officers observed a Chevrolet vehicle travel through a red light at the intersection of Chagrin Boulevard and Lee Road.
A traffic stop was conducted and officers smelled alcohol on the person of the driver, a Cleveland man, 45. The man showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety testing.
Police arrested the man for OVI. He refused to submit a breath sample.
Domestic violence: Van Aken Boulevard
At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1, officers were dispatched to the 15000 block of Van Aken Boulevard where a Cleveland woman, 23, reported that, while visiting her mother and 21-year-old sister, both Shaker Heights residents, she became involved in an argument with her sister.
The argument escalated to the point that her sister threw a bottle at the woman, scratching her face.
The woman declined medical attention. Officers arrested her sister for domestic violence.
Obstructing official business: Warrensville Center Road
At 8:35 a.m. Oct. 3, a Chevrolet car was seen traveling well above the speed limit and driving through stop signs in the area of Ingleside Road and Scottsdale Boulevard.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, found to be a Beachwood woman, 24, refused to stop.
The woman eventually stopped and was arrested for obstructing official business and fleeing and eluding.
Using weapon while intoxicated: Warrensville Center Road
At 6:40 a.m. Oct. 4, officers were dispatched to apartments in the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road to investigate a report of a male, dressed in all black, walking the grounds and acting suspiciously.
Officers encountered the man, 21, of Richmond Heights, and smelled on his person the odor of alcohol. Under his shirt, police saw the outline of a firearm.
Officers detained the man, confiscated the firearm, and arrested him for having weapons while intoxicated.
Assault: Menlo Road
At 5:55 p.m. Oct. 4, a 44-year-old Shaker Heights woman in the 3000 block of Menlo Road reported that her 12-year-old son, while walking home, had been slapped by another 12-year-old Shaker Heights boy. The boy declined medical attention.
OVI: Avalon Road
At 1:30 a.m. Oct. 5, officers observed a Toyota vehicle being driven left of center in the area of Chagrin Boulevard and Avalon Road. Immediately thereafter, the Toyota’s driver, a Cleveland woman, 23, struck the bumper of a Ford vehicle.
Officers approached the woman, smelled alcohol, and immediately recognized that she was drunk. The woman did not pass field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI.
She submitted a breath alcohol sample of .174. Officers completed a motor vehicle accident report and additionally charged the woman with having a prohibited BAC.
