Woman dies and others injured after car crash on A44

A large emergency service presence was on the A44 yesterday (Monday) afternoon[1] following a fatal crash which also saw two people rushed to hospital. The woman was found in a critical condition at the scene, and despite paramedics’ best efforts, she was later confirmed dead at the scene. The road between Evesham and Broadway was closed at the time.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a woman, who was a passenger in one of the cars, in a critical condition. “They immediately began administering advanced life support, but sadly, despite their best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save her, and she was confirmed dead at the scene. “A man, who was the driver of one of the cars, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken by land ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

“A second man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, by land ambulance. A third man was assessed and discharged at the scene.” West Midlands Ambulance Service to the scene at 4.26pm and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham to the scene.

An ambulance from South Western Ambulance Service also attended. Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed yesterday evening[2] that one person died at the scene following a crash on the A44 Pitchers Hill between Evesham and Broadway. We have contacted West Mercia Police for more information.

It has only been a few days since West Mercia Police issued a fresh appeal for witnesses[3] following a fatal motorbike crash on the same stretch of road.

A motorbike had collided with a telegraph pole, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene on August 11.
