1-year-old baby girl hurt in Massachusetts crash dies, state police say

ANDOVER, Mass. (TND) -- A 1-year-old baby girl who was seriously hurt in a Massachusetts crash has died, authorities announced in a news release Wednesday. Massachusetts State Police[1] said the infant passed away Sunday. State police previously said authorities responded to the scene of a single-car crash in Andover Friday around 3:40 a.m.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation shows the driver was headed north in a 2017 Toyota Camry on Route 495 in Andover when she lost control of her car. The car veered into a grass median before crashing down an embankment and hitting a tree. The baby, who has not been identified, was severely hurt and taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

She was then flown to a Boston hospital for treatment. State police said the driver, a 33-year-old woman from New Hampshire, suffered minor injuries. "Troopers are investigating distraction on the part of the operator as a potential cause of the crash," state police noted,

"The investigation to determine whether the operator of the Camry will face criminal charges is ongoing," authorities added.
