A crackdown on tailgaters will save lives

Regarding the fatal Licking County interstate crash ("Officials: Six dead, 15 hospitalized when bus and truck crash on I-70[1]," Nov.

15):

We hear about horrible multivehicle crashes all too often. The media may give lengthy coverage on the "what" and "where," but not an editorial view of "how." I feel the most common reason is driving too close to the vehicle in front of you, in other words, tailgating.

Why are there not more arrests for tailgating? My own police chief, a very decent person, told me years ago that the reason for such few arrests was that they are difficult to prove in court.

I understand that, but for the trooper, that shouldn't be a concern....

Just call it as you see it and let the court procedure happen.

I've been driving for 65 years, and though I fully respect the officers and the risks in their job, I say, "Please arrest more tailgaters."
