A38 live updates as road between Coxbench and Ripley closed due to accident involving lorry

Part of the A38[1] northbound in Derbyshire was closed this morning following an accident. The road was blocked after machinery fell off a lorry, turning the vehicle on its side. The road was closed between the B6179 turn-off to Holbrook and Coxbench and the turn-off to Ripley[2] at the Hartsay Interchange – one lane remains closed as of 11.30am this morning (Tuesday, November 28).

A Derbyshire police spokesman said that there had been no serious injuries but it would take longer for the scene to be recovered because of the need to move the machinery. He said that it was hoped that the machinery could be recovered as soon as possible to allow the road to reopen. In the meantime, queuing traffic is being reported in the area and motorists are being advised to avoid the A38 and find an alternative route.

The incident happened just after 5am this morning, according to traffic information service Inrix. The situation also caused congestion on the A38[3] southbound- with onlookers slowing to look at the northbound accident – where a lane is closed to assist. It is reported that an accident occurred there also.

This is a live incident and we will be providing updates below as it develops:
