A56 Accrington Bypass closed overnight due to crash

At around 10.40pm last night (November 24), the road was closed in both directions between the A680 Rising Bridge and A679 near Huncoat following a crash. As a result of the crash, there were delays and traffic building near the Accrington[1] Bypass. The northbound carriageway reopened early this morning at 12.30am with the A56 southbound remaining closed until 7am.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West said: “The A56 south between the A679 near Huncoat and A680 Rising Bridge has now re-opened following a collision late last night. “There are no delays reported on approach, thank you for your patience.”

It is unknown whether anyone was injured in the crash or how many vehicles were involved.

Police have been contacted for information.
