Air ambulance scrambled to crash on A5 between Nuneaton and Atherstone

An air ambulance had to be scrambled to the scene of a crash on the A5 between Nuneaton[1] and Atherstone[2]. As a result of the collision at the Woodford Lane junction, the A5 was partially closed in both directions between the Fenny Drayton turn off and The Royal Redgate pub. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS)[3] confirmed it was called to the two-car collision at just after 3pm.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire[4] and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. “On arrival we discovered two patients, both women” a WMAS[5] spokesman said. “One was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to George Eliot Hospital, whilst the second was assessed and discharged at the scene.” The stretch of busy road remained blocked until just after 5pm. This caused traffic congestion in the Weddington area of Nuneaton as well as along Tuttle Hill.

It also caused tailbacks with traffic heading from Atherstone.
