Armed police on Glasgow streets as cops reassure locals there is ‘no threat’
Residents have been warned that they may spot armed police in the Gorbals and Pollokshaws[1] area of the city today (November 22). Despite an increase in police presence, the force has advised that there is ‘no threat’ to the public as they descend on the city streets as part of a live training[2] exercise. The same training exercise, which is a standard procedure for officers, will also take place in Airdrie and Cumbernauld.
Police Scotland wrote on social media: “Our officers are taking part in a live play exercise today in North Lanarkshire (Airdrie and Cumbernauld) and Glasgow (Gorbals and Pollokshaws) and you may see armed police as part of this. “The training is standard procedure and not in response to a specific threat or intelligence. We thank the public for understanding while this important training is carried out.”
