Arrest over Winwick Road hit-and-run that seriously injured child
Shortly after 4.15pm on Tuesday, September 12, police were called to reports of a collision on the A49 Winwick Road, near to Warrington and Vale Royal College, involving a silver Audi A6 and a pedal cyclist. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, and the vehicle was found abandoned by officers in an alleyway near Longford Street and Rhodes Street. The cyclist, a 16-year-old boy, was rushed to hospital by air ambulance for treatment to his injuries, with Winwick Road in both directions for several hours.
Cheshire Police confirmed that the boy sustained potentially life-changing injuries and issued a CCTV appeal on October 12 to find a suspect. Today, Thursday, the force has confirmed that officers have arrested a 25-year-old man, of Warrington, in relation to the incident. The man was arrested today on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He remains in police custody at this time.
PC Baskerville, of the force’s roads and crime unit, previously said: “This collision is likely to impact the victim for the rest of his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to trace the person responsible.”
