Baby clinging to life after crash on Route 495 in Andover

A 1-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries in a one-car crash early this morning when the driver slammed into a tree off Route 495 in Andover, state police report. Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:40 AM a 2017 Toyota Camry with a New Hampshire registration was northbound on Route 495 in Andover when the operator lost control of the vehicle, police said. The Camry went into the grass median, continuing in a northerly direction, police said, then descended an embankment and struck a tree.

The infant was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. From there she was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with minor injuries.
