Body found in search for much-loved West Country man

A body has been found in the search for missing West Country[1] man David Newby. Mr Newby's family have today (Monday, November 20) shared the news that he has been located. The disappearance of 72-year-old Mr Newby, from Penzance, in Cornwall, triggered wide-ranging searches undertaken by family and friends alongside Devon and Cornwall Police.

He was last seen alive in Penzance on the afternoon of Friday, November 10. Mr Newby's niece, Claire Newby, had been sharing regular updates on the search for her uncle. However, in today's update (November 20), she reported that a body has been located, reports CornwallLive[2].

In a statement on Facebook[5], Claire said: "It's with great sadness I write this post. Unfortunately Dave was found yesterday. We are asking people to give the family space to grieve during this incredibly difficult time.

Fly high, little butterfly." CornwallLive has reported the searches and updates[6] throughout. Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: "The body of a man has been located at Mullion on Sunday 19 November.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Formal identification is due to take place.

"The family of David Newby, 72, from Penzance, who was reported missing on Wednesday 15 November, have been made aware."
