Bristol Airport’s ‘multi-faith area’ compared to a bus shelter
Bristol Airport has unveiled a new multi-faith area. The outdoor structure joins the other multi-faith area situated in the departure lounge of the terminal located between the central walkway and Gates 32-34. However, the new area has been likened to a bus shelter while other people have compared unfavourable it to other, slightly more attractive, places of worship such as Notre Dame, in Paris; The Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, and St Peter’s Basilica, in the Vatican. Bristol Airport[1] said it was created after wide consultation and provides “customers with a private space to reflect and pray whilst waiting to collect friends, family or loved ones”.
Bristol Airport said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter[2] ): “This week, we have opened a new multi-faith area in the free waiting zone. Located just off the Silver Zone roundabout, the new area provides customers with a private space to reflect and pray whilst waiting to collect friends, family or loved ones.”
It added: “Please note the new multi-faith area was created after we consulted widely, listened to feedback and to provide shelter and dignity prior to the winter.
We also have a multi-faith area in the Departure Lounge of the terminal situated between the Central Walkway and Gates 32-34.” Since it was unveiled on social media, a host of people have had their say on the small structure. Some are still trying to work out if it is a parody or not.
Another X user sarcastically likened the multi-faith area to other places of worship. @drphiliplee1 posted: “Behold the glory of mankind’s structures dedicated to the worship of God,” alongside images of St. Peter’s Basilica, Notre Dame de Paris and The Blue Mosque. @FiShoop said: “It’s a lovely idea but badly done, unfortunately – looks like a bus shelter and there’s no door which means it will be freezing and wet, not exactly conducive to quiet reflection.
Just had to check this isn’t a parody account.” @CSG1973 agreed: “It looks like a bus shelter.” @AndyMeanie added: “I am trying to figure out if this is parody or not. I’m struggling.”
@djcpmoore wrote: “It is a Bus Shelter.” @hutchison1987 put: “Are we praying for the bus to turn up or does it just look like a bus stop.”
