A group of burglars have stolen 70 live turkeys from a local farm in Dorset less than a month before Christmas[2] day.

Snatched during a nighttime raid, thieves gained access to a farm in the Bridport area and took 70 bronze turkeys alongside a host of equipment on November 27.

Dorset police are now appealing for witnesses and are encouraging any locals who find live or freshly butchered turkeys in 'suspicious circumstances' to contact the force.

The heist, which also resulted in the loss of farm machinery, could now put farmers at risk and potentially ruin their Christmas sales.

Indeed, police said the crime has had a significant impact on the victim's business and warned the public to be on the lookout.

PC James McClements, of Dorset Police, said: 'This burglary has had a significant impact on the victim's business, and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify those involved.

'I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity, including unusual vehicle movements, during the early hours of Monday to please contact us.

'Finally, I would like to hear from anyone who has come across live or freshly butchered turkeys being offered for sale in the area in suspicious circumstances.'
