Car crashes into wall of historic Spalding pub
The scene of the collision in Spalding Emergency services are attempting to free a car which has crashed into a 16th century pub in Lincolnshire. Two vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident in Church Gate, Spalding, which happened at about 09:50 GMT, police said.
Lincolnshire Police said one of the cars had “gone through the wall” of the Ye Olde White Horse pub. Two ambulances and a fire engine have also been pictured at the scene.
Emergency services have been at the scene Andrew Law, who runs the Crystal Inn Chinese restaurant next to the pub, said: “You could feel the impact even next door.”
On the damage to the pub, which is believed to have been closed since 2019, he added: “It’s not great, it’s an old building as well.” Councillor Robert Gibson from South Holland District Council said the pub was owned by Samuel Smiths Brewery. It is believed to be one of the oldest buildings in the town.
He said: “I don’t think the building is listed but it’s an old pub with a nice thatched roof. It won’t be a cheap thing to repair. “I hope everybody in the accident is OK and I hope Sam Smiths can get it let out and get the business thriving again at some point soon.”
The BBC has approached Samuel Smiths Brewery for comment.
