Car hit by train on railway line sparking emergency closure

A car has been hit by a train in the Highlands sparking an emergency line closure. Police were called to the scene in Barbaraville, near Invergordon, at around 3.19pm on Friday. ScotRail confirmed that the Inverness to Thurso line has been closed and urged passengers to plan accordingly.

British Transport Police have confirmed that there are no reported injuries. A spokesman said: "Officers were called to a level crossing near Barbaraville at around 3.19pm on Friday following reports that a car had been struck by a train. "Thankfully no injuries have been reported.

Enquiries into this incident are ongoing." Network Rail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Invergordon and Tain. The Inverness - Wick/Thurso line is currently closed between those locations.

"We're working closely with them and will share a further update soon." ScotRail said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Invergordon and Tain, services between Inverness and Wick/Thurso are suspended. "We have requested replacement buses and will let you know when these have been confirmed but please consider postponing your journey.

"We have arranged for your rail tickets to be accepted on local bus routes as follows: With Stagecoach North buses between Inverness & Wick and between Inverness and Tain in both directions."
