Child arrested after dramatic Exeter police chase ends in crash
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following a dramatic police chase in the Exeter area. Officers spotted a ‘suspicious vehicle’ travelling on Exmouth Road in Lympstone at around 6.50pm last night (November 28). The driver of the car, a silver Vauxhall Astra Estate, failed to stop for police before speeding through Ebford to Sandygate roundabout.
The motorist drove into the Sowton Industrial Estate area and then headed for Pinhoe. Police say the speeding car crashed into a pedestrian on Chancel Lane at the junction with Venny Bridge. A man suffered minor injuries to his foot.
A marked police car was also rammed and badly damaged in the incident. Fortunately, no officers were harmed. The car eventually stopped on Stemson Avenue in Pinhoe around 7.05pm before the driver fled the scene.
Officers carried out an area search before locating a child. As a result, a boy, aged 14, from the Exeter area was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and without insurance. He has been released on bail until February 19, 2024.
Police are investigating the incident and asking for witnesses to contact them. Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on their vehicle dashcam, doorbell camera or CCTV system.
