The crash had a knock-on effect on other routes, with long queues on all approaches to the Lord Lees Roundabout at the top of Blue Bell Hill. There was also a delay for drivers on the London-bound M2, with more trying to come off at Junction 2 to avoid the gridlock at Junction 3.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 7.29am to a collision involving a car and a van on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A229 Blue Bell Hill, near the exit for Burham.

“Officers attended the scene where minor injuries were reported.

The vehicles have now been moved and the carriageway is clear.”
